International bestselling author
Award winning author

The prize-winning fourth title in the ever popular Joel Gustafson series from bestselling author, Henning Mankell.

Joel Gustafson has a lot to consider. His 15th birthday is next month, and he can’t stop thinking about the new liberties he’ll be granted: he’ll be allowed to drive a moped, and he’ll no longer need to sneak into the cinema to see an adults-only film. And maybe his father will finally agree to leave their small Swedish town and the two of them will become sailors – something Joel has always dreamed of. Joel’s life does take a new turn, but not at all the one he expects. He and his father must decide whether they want to reconnect with an important person from their past, someone who has long been absent from their lives. Emotional wounds will resurface, but Joel and his father agree – they must each work to resolve their past before the future can hold promise. Journey to the End of the World is a poignant and bittersweet story about a young man trying to find his place in the world while learning difficult lessons about abandonment, understanding and forgiveness.

'I liked the pithy, Hemingway-esque style of this novel with its taut, short sentences. The story is both compelling and moving. This is the fourth and last book in a series about Joel, but I have not read the others and found that Journey to the End of the World reads very well as a stand-alone novel.'
